That's okay.. I come from a history of fords with plenty of horror stores where heat exchangers bust and your auto trans fills with coolant..

Would transmission fluid mix with water (coolant)?
I would have thought it would float on top like an oil slick.

engine oil mixes with water/coolant and goes milky so no reason trans fluid wouldn't do the same. it is constantly circulating, so if the trans or engine sat idle then of course the oil wil float ontop of the water/coolant.
if your ally radiator has sh!t itself in two years then start looking for a stray current.

When you changed your coolant a couple of years ago did you use those 3 tablets Holden recommends putting into the radiator as well?
They make the luminous green colour the additive go a sort of pale rusty brown colour.

I've never used the pellets. While I was
flushing it today, it took about fifteen
to twenty minutes for the flush water to
come out clear with no more transsmission
fluid.

to flush it properley you should:

empty it out via the lower radiator hose
fill it up with clean water
start it, let it warm to operating temp
turn it off remove lower hose

repeat 2 or 3 times.

an easier way is to just take the thermostat out and fill up>drain>fill up>drain>fill up>drain.

just running a hose into it isnt flushing properley.

edit* just read the extra posts. LOL! changing the rad??? really?? lol, epic waste of time. if there was tranny fluid in your water it'd be milky white. same as oil.

why the fk didnt you just change the coolant????

I did flush it properly......
How else could
transmission fluid get into the coolant
if not through the raddy? The trans
level had dropped and the coolant was
full of red, oily fluid, not engine oil,
can only be trans fluid via the heat
exchanger within the raddiator. Time
will tell.

VS's suck for a cooling system,
When I first got the car it was pushing out the coolant. I though the head gaskets were gone for sure cause it was that bad.
I picked up a second hand engine along with the donor car. The trans was shot anyway so did a swap over engine and trans.
Coolant issue still prevailed???!!!. Well took to the books and found that the VS has air block in the heads that is IMPOSSIBLE to get rid of, so in the manual it states to use the genuine antifreeze/antiboil and it has to be a mix of 50% to water 50% or the mix would be too weak (most brands say 30% coolant I think). I did that and fixed the problem.
Manual also says on hot days or after towing if fan has kicked in you have to wait for the fan to stop before turning off the engine or it will still want to boil over. WHAT a STUFFED UP SYSTEM.

PS: sounds like you got luck in that the leak through to the radiator was minor enough for it to go 1 way only.
If it were worse you would have come close to stuffing the trans.
I'd say the pressure is higher in the trans fluid, but when you switch the car off that pressure would drop pretty quick and youd still have the pressure of the radiator system there while cooling off. Would have been a small enough leak, like a crack or bad weld? that's if there's any welds internally during manufacturing.

IF REPCO reimburse you I'd be making sure and change the fluid trans filter and hit them up for the cost for sure.
