Holden ve radiator cap

Hey all,

It's time to replace my radiator cap on my 2008 ve v6 as it's starting to leak.

Atm I have a cap which has a 125kpa/18 psi raring on it and I've looked online, I can buy the same or a 140kpa/20psi.

Is there a big difference between the two? As if I buy the same cap, im sure it shouldn't cause any issues?

Everyone will tell you to use a genuine cap only. Some of the aftermarket caps can be problematic and genuine ones are cheap enough.

I've been using a aftermarket repco radiator cap for the last 5 plus years without any issues but now it's leaking.

I can go get the same or go genuine like the link?

Get genuine. The 140kPa cap is the updated cap. Used VE-VF. I use it on my VZ as well.

I’ve also had issues with aftermarket caps leaking straight away from brand new, go genuine they are cheap enough

Realistically about 5 years is the usable service life of VE radiator caps just based on the design of them. The only thing sealing it is o ring pressure on the sidewall of the filler neck. Once the o rings compress and get flattened with age it will leak.

If you’ve gotten 5 years out of the Repco one then getting the same again would probably be ok but if you’ve still got an ex-Holden dealer in your area you should be able to swing by and pick up a genuine one from them.

I purchased a genuine cap from Holden and no more leaking now.
