Hi everyone. I have a VS 304 V8 and was wondering which alternator to go for? Repco are selling 2 different types one being a 70amp and the other being an 85amp. Thinking I might need one as my car idles at 14.2 then under load drops to 12.2V. That’s just highbeams and aircon.
When slightly accelerating it goes up to 12.5.

The come with an 85amp. Definitely don't go lower.
But if it is working as you describe, then that's pretty normal for them. (Try lights on, indicator on, rear demister on, heater on, and quiet music - damn 10.8 on dash display!)

I think there is an upgrade option @EYY IIRC fitted a 100a or 110a one to his.

Oh ok so that’s normal? I thought that it’s pretty low. Maybe a bigger battery might help?

I had a proflow 140A alternator. It was working good until about 6 months later when it started causing some voltage problems. Gone back to a Bosch alternator and didn’t expect it to run at this low of a voltage.

Proflow are cheap and nasty. You ideally want a genuine Bosch one.

Bosch 120amp alternator is the upgrade weapon of choice for the Commodore V8. Needs a slight modification to one of the mounting points. Plenty of posts if you do a search.

Yeah I’ve seen that. $800 at repco. Might be the way to go

I wouldn't pay that much. There are Bosch ones on eBay for around $400-450.
Yeah 100% I’ll have a look into it. So this is how these cars are from factory though? Low voltage? I might also check the grounds on the car and see if any of them have rust or corrosion buildup. Thanks guys.
