Welcome to Just Commodores, a site specifically designed for all people who share the same passion as yourself.
some warranty suppliers would argue that a timing chain is a service item, and is not covered by warranty.
Good for you.
That's two years and ~50,000km difference to the car in question at current time.
we've already been here...a chain should last longer than 140k's otherwise its known as a belt.
Can you find me the documentation to back this statement up for the chain that GM use for this application?
that is my statement based on common knowledge. the gm related information is freely available on the web, try GM Inside News Forum
Fact is that Australin Consumer Protection laws warrants manufacturing faults and defects in any product for the LIFE of the product. Given that Holden has identified a manufacturing fault, it is case closed, it is to be repaired under warranty at the manufacturers expense under Australian Consumer Protection Laws for the lift of the product.
If it appeared to be a one off incident with a particular engine component, whereby no known manufacturing fault was documented, then Holden may repair/replace under warranty (if in warranty period), or at their discretion out of warranty, or at your cost outside of this.
