Hey guys I'm having trouble with my horn
relay. I drove through some shallow
floodwater and the horn was fine. Then I
used the horn and the relay blew, fuse
didn't blow. So I bought a replacement
relay and installed it, making sure the
dual disc horns were dry by blowing
compressed air into them. New relay
lasted a day, then blew, again not
blowing the fuse. Ideas please?

Try wiring the horns to a completely separate power supply and see if the do work ok.

Horns are much like a speaker. You may have shorted them out.

I had numerous issues with my horns early on when bought my car, literally went through 3 of em

Realised that they need waterproofing and no issue since and for me, no more horns and fuses blowing.. .
Upgraded to VY horns and have a VE one handy too.

Wires and connections need to be sealed. Duct tape works wonders.

Thanks, fellas. I'll pull them out on the
weekend, check them and tape up the
plugs once re-installed.
I ordered two genuine relays from Holden
today as the replacement I had put in
was a Repco job, with Ford stamped on
the side. Old bloke at Repco said it
would be the same, but who knows....

You could try removing the horns and shorting them directly across the battery to see if they work and sound correct. They may have developed rust on the contacts inside after the immersion which would cause additional resistance, leading to the relays blowing. It's even possible for the diaphragm to rust solid within the coil so that the horn is already shorted out.

Yeh, Cal, they sound fine. They worked
fine for a day or so with the new relay,
then blew the relay again. I might buy
two new horns.
