how can i tell the cube of my engine?

hey i have a 1979 vb wif a red motor i was told the otha day it was only a 186 :ranting: but wen i brought it i was told it was a 202! can ne1 help me out

Passenger side of motor, size is cast in the block. Look from underneath the car.

Shouldn't need to look from underneath. It should be pretty easy to spot with the aid of a torch.

it would be right there behind the alternator or check the engine number if it starts with 'QL' its a 202

im pretty sure the vb red motors had capacity in litres cast into the block, not cubic inchs as like the early motors

Mine had '202'. Original motor. It was an early one though, built October 1978. Maybe the later ones had that.

Edit: But the air cleaner had "GMH 3300" on it.
