vr acclaim
my vr is the second car i haven't built from a rolling shell. as for engines just the major stuff like machining gets sent out oh and wheel alignments (u can only get them so close with a string line.) everything else i do myself. as well as every-one elses. i'm forever under some-ones bonnet. and yes i'm a chick. don't be too shocked.

I will do the engine rebuilds, but gearbox and diff can be left to a professional.

Regularly check oil, all fluids, coolant, brake pads, tyre pressue, and run the ss on premium. Always good think 2 check levels and using good oil such as a penzoil gt performance is healthy for commodore. :whistling

I try 2 do as much as i can with help for my dad and mates, I send the ss off 2 my mechanic, engineer and auto electrican for work i cant do and for servicing but i did the stereo along with some help from tisonics. I also did the deck, custom guages, sports wheel, boot install and several other bits in the several week of having the vnss. I always like a professional job but if i can save my self some buks i will do my best 2 have a go my self. :yeah:

Times are getting tougher folks. Ive built up about $10-$15000 worth of tools from when i was a mechanic and i used to specialize on all 4WD's and late model car servicing working in a used 4WD dealership before crossing over into Chrysler/Jeeps where i did a couple of year as foreman. Now what i noticed was the special tools creeping out and the different ways they all do things now so that people like ourselves cant mess with them anymore.

Chrsyler PT Cruiser has a 2piece clutch fluid system from Master cylinder to slave cylinder, non serviceable, when she goes, its a 3-4hour job and replace the lot and costs about $1000 all up.

Jeep uses male torque-head bolts as the last 2 bolts to hold in their bellhousing, id hate to get that far before realising i didnt have the tool.

My missus 01 Barina uses the same bolts all over the timing cover and if i never bought that snap-on kit with the entire range of torque sockets, id be screwed. They cost me $150...

Pretty soon you will all either buy $500 tools a year to work on your car or just get her done by a "Specialist".

After a lot of men offering to "help" which usually resulted in more problems I decided I would be the one to mess with my car & the few times I have let my guard down, They go & prove the piont! lol

I usually do my own services, brakes, & most other minor things, to mine, my bf's, my friends lol. The way I tried to get it working with my mates was to have a little skills circle going. You know? what ever one person is good at they come do for you & you return the favour etc? Its kinda working lol

The only thing I get pissed at is "proffesional" guys now, GGRRR most my mates I guess I have "proven" lol myself to have a clue, but when so caled proffesionals say/do stupid **** like "are you sure thats the one you need love?" in THAT voice & look straight at whatever male friend I have with me :bang:
Im saying this because I rang & priced a new regulator for my alternator, after 4 times him coming back to the phone to ask me the same questions I answered in my opening question. he goes & gives me the wrong price for the wrong thing! I didnt ask for a changeover alternator, I asked for the regulator price. So then I got sarcastic lol, its a little black box thingy... lmao. Plus why dont they listen to you? I have a 87 VL which yes I know mostly came out with a hitachi alt. BUT someone before me changed it to a Bosch, so when I say I want a Bosch 1, I want a Bosch 1!!!

Now saying all that please dont ask why Im not driving my VL atm... :embarrass Ive just been too slack! Needs new alternator & brakes done for a start, & could prob do with one of them services  Ive been to busy with other peopls cars... Damn head gaskets & alternators on VNs.. mumble mumble damn VNs always get fixed first... lol

K finished my essay for the min. :D
