Getting up there a bit:

Rolling body (VP calais IRS/FE2/LSD/"17s with new tires/6 months reg and WOF):$600
Engine w/computer, looms etc. :$400
Manual gearbox, pedal box, clutch cable etc: $600
New battery : $150

$1750

Thats pretty bad for a car thats probably only worth $1500

I would hate to think What I have spent on my Valiant, probably close to $10K now - and its not even in paint yet

well I first started building my car (with EFI engine) back in 2001 and it was on the road in 2003. So some of the prices here of course are very different to today. Some parts have been upgraded between then and now too.

engine $4500
exhaust $300
Trickshift intake $2600
air intake/plumbing $950
strut brace $200
Kalmaker SP3 ECU $1200
tune $900
gearbox - carry over from my previous car (cost $1500 back then)
2 x clutches $1200
wheels carry over from previous car (cost $2500 I think....)
VN Grp A front brakes including rebuild, machine rotors $400
rebuild rear brakes, replace rotors $280
tailshaft rebuild/balance $300
suspension - approx $2000
door trims & rear seat $1200
recover dash approx $400
carpet $160
front seats including mod plate $1000
electronic speedo $$300
various different NOS dash switches etc approx $500
NOS evaporator & fan motor $495
NOS heater controls $130
new heater core $100
other new A/C parts $350
83L fuel tank approx $200
Bosch 044 fuel pump $180
tint windows $500
sound system approx $600
new windscreen $300
NOS front indicators $100
personalised number plates $495

that's some of it lol, can't remember it all - we're talking 10 years worth of ongoing upgrading & maintaining
of course without going into the consumable stuff like tyres, brake pads, oil etc......
