Ive spent all afternoon removing my strips.

The method I found easiest was a stanley knife and pulling the strip away from the body as I cut the stretched out (from pulling) sticky crap.

The fishing line worked to start off but left too many marks in the paint work in the sticky spots. One lot of strips had 3 lines of sticky under them and the fishing line was useless on them.

I have yet to finish cleaning up the doors. I ialso found underneath the little piece of strip under the side indicator was like it was sealed on there with rubber as I still havent got all of it off yet and it too had to be cut off the panel.

Have attached pics of the first side.

I have removed all the strips and polished the car. In the end a stanley knife and careful hand was most efficient at removing the strips. Loads of wax & grease remover. Eucalyptus oil did nothing at all. I came across some strips that were like rubber underneath and very hard to get off. I got a hairdryer and warmed the rubber up then sprayed the hell out of it with wax remover to get the solvent into it. This made life a bit easier. But it was still tedious work but worth it in the end.

Ah stanley! Lol surgeons hands clearly.... Most caramel wheels are available at auto paint stores and things, gotta use a very low rpm setting so the paint doesnt burn

the paint will almost always peel off of the older commodores, just coz the paint is older and crappier. all the newer model commos will be fine like vt onwards, as long as your carefull and patient

I want to paint mine.
A) Do i really have to take them off the car?
B) What paint do i use?
Planning to use a spray gun attached to a compressor.
Cheers Jimbo

They are easy to paint properly.

1. Degrease and remove all polish/dirt/birdshit etc.
2. Lightly rub back with fine wet and dry (about 800 to 1000 grit) used wet
3. Thoroughly wash down and allow to dry.
4. Lightly coat with plastic primer - be careful, this stuff is very thin and runs easily. Use two or three light coats.
5. Apply two or three light coats of primer, allow to dry thorougly then rub back with 1000 wet and dry used wet.
6. Wash down thoroughly again and allow to dry.
7. Apply colour coats lightly until decent coverage is achieved. This is usually 3 -4 coats of colour, and similar number of clear coats. Rub down between colour coats but not after top colour coat is applied. Don't rub down between clear coats.

These trims will always suffer damage from careless bastards, so be prepared for little chips etc from car parks. Also, VZ trims tend to crack because they are too thin and they don't like expanding on hot days.

I did this to my Calais, big ass heavy thick door strips which surprisingly add a fair amount of panel deadening to the door's sheetmetal.. fair sacrifice, looks heaps better.
