Thanks for the info. The headlining has just started falling down on my VT, so I really appreciate the photos etc. Just need to find the right material to go with the awesome sound of the Hurricanes ... maybe I'll go for a leopard print ... or not.

Hey guys. This was my first crack, done a couple months back. I was quite gentle when trying to pull back the plastic covers but a of couple clips still broke.
When ready to glue, do in halves..you lay your fabric/vinyl over the whole board then pull it back half way (like in one of the photos), and do that half first (there are a couple useful videos on youtube showing that part too). Need 2 people to stick it down - a person each side working their fingers from the centre out to the sides, sticking down about an inch/3cm each swipe. So always keep the fabric/vinyl folded back on itself, with your hands underneath it, swiping it forward gradually - if ya know what I mean..
Some photos... Hope they help.

Just did my VZ yesterday left the foam off and looks great for a temp job looking at redoing it next month with a vinyl as the material shrank after hand washing it in cold water would only use Selley's kwik grip.

This thread sure has stood the test of time! So many good results :)

Here's mine. I used a neoprene type foam from Clark Rubber, 5mm and between my husband and I it took us about three hours all up. Thanx for the detailed how to! I don't know as I would have tackled it without this lol

Before, the foam layer, and after... for some reason they have uploaded sideways and I have no idea why, they are fine on the computer :\

So have any of these held up over the years?

Whats the best glue to use, something that will cop the heat of being stored in a shed up here in QLD?

I have my liner out at the moment so will need to make a decision soon. The cardboard liner itself has a sag to it as there were never any velcro strips or double sided tape holding it up in the first place. Any recommendations for this?

So have been around to a few upholsters and they looked at my old roof lining fabric and all said no chance we can get the same fabric. The all reckon the last of it went a few years ago.

Spotlight doesn't even have anything remotely close.

Given my sunvisors are covered in the same velour as the roof, I sort of want to keep it all the same colour. The upholsters didn't want to touch the sunvisors as the fabric is not sewn on, the seamsappear to be heat pressed.

After I scraped off all the crap from the old fabric, I threw it into the machine for two washes. Damn it must have been dirty due to how black the water was, but now it looks like new. I laid it out onto the old headlining and it doesn't appear to have shrunk, as I could get all the cutouts to line up with each other.

Has anybody tried redoing their headlining using the old fabric? The upholsters can do it but they aren't keen, and pricing goes from a fixed price to a per hour price.

The VR Caprice I did 6 years ago is holding up fine.
It's important to understand that it is NOT the adhesive that fails in the first place, but the foam layer that perishes and breaks down. That's why most of the adhesive 'solutions' described in this thread don't work well, especially almost anything in a spray can. The factory uses sprayed-on yellow contact adhesive for a reason
