these came factory with 253s and 307s didnt they?

or where some factory 350s? i thought the 350 was first used in 71

you could also have them with a 186 i think.

HG had the 350ci chevs, but HT went to 327 chev??

The other way around, the HT's ran from 1969-1970 and came with the 350 its the HG's that came with the 327

As for the interior it will indeed be the original orange and black hounds tooth in cloth and vinyl

Woops, few errors here with the engines. Let an old bugger sort you guys out on this one.

HK (1968 to 1969) 161, 186,186S, 307, 327.
HT (1969 to 1970) 161, 186, 186S, 253, 307, 308, 350 (The 307 was replaced by the 308 during the HT production run)
HG (1970 to 1971) 161, 186, 186S, 253, 308, 350

Shooter's car is a GTS and he mentioned that the engine is a 350 Chev - if it was an original factory built GTS 350, then it is a very rare and valuable item. The 161 and 186 could only be purchased in the base Monaro. GTS had the 186S standard, then you had the GTS 327 (HK) and GTS 350 (HT and HG). The base Monaro and the GTS could be optioned with the bigger engines up to 307/308, but the top of the range engines could only be purchased as a complete package. (ie you couldn't buy a base Monaro with a 327 or 350).

Shooter - best of luck finding that trim. It's definitely the way to go. Do you know of a source?

Mate fantastic build. I like that you're keeping it original. Best of luck with it, will be watching with interest.

Thanks for clearing that one up calaber i got the HK's and HG's mixed up
As for the trim we have sourced most of it from a bloke in richmond who has a couple old holden's laying around along with a heap of other parts

Whats the difference between the 186 and 186S?

I had a 67 HR Special with a 186S and 2 speed powerglide but never knew the difference between a 186S and 186.

We're going a bit off-thead here, so I'll keep it short. The 186S was fitted with a two barrel Stromberg WW carb instead of a single barrel Bendix, larger diameter air filter, twin cast iron headers instead of a single outlet, modified cam timing, free flow exhaust of slightly larger diameter than the standard system, heavier duty main and big end bearings. The base 186 was rated at 130 bhp and the 186S was rated at 145 bhp.

Gees, I love helping out with all this early stuff. Bread and butter from my youth.

Hey, a Saginaw! Haven't seen one of those since I sold my HT about a hundred years ago!

Shooter - the instrument panel was more of a satin black, not full gloss, if you are going for originality. Also, the panel had a chromed finish on the raised lip around each dial. I'm pretty sure you can get these things restored by firms that specialise in this sort of stuff, but again, it depends on how far to want to go to keep it original.
