Now I'm wondering how my tired old 340,000km timing chain is going to handle those new heavy duty valve springs.... ?

If in doubt replace whilst you have the chance....Otherwise, we all know what will happen at the most inconvenient time... :)

Yeah, at this point it would be silly to invite Murphy to the party and do a Scotty!

As long as you're not forced into the toilet Murphy because of Scotty's mistake ;) I reckon the penality would be more than 5 minutes

Not yet. Need to figure out how much I get per tank and how much a tank holds to decide if it's a worthwhile effort. Very few servo's have LPG these days and I haven't been back to the one that has it. Will do so next week as I need to fill a few 9kg bottles for the stove.

I will get it started on LPG as that is how it was running when I stripped it.

Going by all the clapped out cammed commodores around here that have been thrown together with Centrelink money sitting on the limiter every night, I’d say you’re well in the clear.

I’d trust the original 20 year old timing set over a new Chinese set

Gaskets ordered, hopefully have those early next week which is OK as I'll be on shift till Sunday now.

I have a new chain, only a single but with IWIS chain so should be superior.

Does NZ have something like this?

Kinda, I use Gaspy which is a local app but doesn't show LPG.

I lie, Gaspy does show LPG. About $1.61

Just remembered I Have a 2800rpm stall converter in the garage. Sounds like a good excuse to replace the rear main seal. Also ordered front main as well as rocker cover gaskets.
