As above, our wood burner has a full wet back (plumbed into the hot water cylinder) and we can burn 14-15 meters of wood/winter.
The burner cost us about $7000 installed (about 10 years ago) and it was built into the old fireplace.
No radiated heat from the flue because it is enclosed in the old chimney. It still heats a 3 bedroom home with plenty of hot water.
A heat pump would be a lot cheaper to run, but on a cold rainy evening there's nothing better than a wood burner. Atmosphere ++++. Good luck with your choice.
