But that still doesn't explain the keyboard not working.

the problem is that solder is now lead free which makes it brittle when heat cycled

i recently had a similar problem with a old powerbook which i was able to fix with reflowing the video chip, i have the equipment to do that

sometimes if you're lucky you can get it fixed it can be expensive as it's time consuming and a gamble
