L98 overheat, no compression

engines dont just loose compression all of a sudden, if it overheated u would have got warnings, even an engine with no rings should still fire just wont run well, how does it feel turning over by hand ?

Temp gauge was sitting normal at half, engine turns freely and doesn't feel like at grabs at any point, you can only hear the starter motor when turning it over. No firing at all.

Get an independent assessment from another mechanic.

sounds like maby crank sensor failed which will stop the engine ? then wont start and can take a bit before it shows a code, is this turning over crank by hand or with starter ? id be looking into it further before any major purchases/decisions
