07 ssv l98, cammed. with ls7 lifters

long story short. as this whole builds been a headache lol.

mechanic cammed my car, advanced cam timing 4deg. (no idea why- as per spec sheet is fine)
went for tune but had check engine light for (timing out).

so i told him, to put it back to 0, or what ever the sheet says.
now my lifters tick pretty loud on cold starts for 3-5 seconds. (coincidence?)

rang the place that sold me the lifters, they said use 10w40 penrite..
that made no difference at all.
any ideas?
is there preloads to adjust when setting timing from 4 back to 0.
are the lifters just faulty?
they're pretty loud and embarrassing to be honest lol.

Check the oil cooler port on the left rear of the engine block just above where the oil filter is. If this is leaking at all then it will introduce air into the oil system and make the lifters tap on startup.

I would like to assume that your mechanic would have spotted if it was leaking but you can’t be too sure on their quality of workmanship these days!

My SSV started getting lifter tap on a cold start not too long after I bought it and after fixing the gasket on the oil cooler port blanking plate it was gone.

It would actually be more accurately described as a redirection plate as it passes the oil out one port in the block and back in through the other, so if it’s leaking at all then all the oil from that oil gallery will drain back to the pan when the car is sitting and the leak will make it have trouble priming back up when the engine is started.

Are the pushrods the correct length for the cam fitted?
