Is it necessary to replace the crank pulley bolt on an LS when you replace the seal? I am yet to buy one as I didn't know I may need one. I will probably have to pay a small fortune now at parts store as I'm booked in for next Wed.

Problem solved. I found a gen GM one on eBay with express post. I should have it by Friday.

Not 100% needed but for customers I do replace them.
The way I do it is torque it to the spec the after it needs to go another 60°....... There is no way you can hold the crank without a specific tool so I get a protractor and mark 60° and blast it with a 3/4 " rattle gun until the marks align.

My (old boss used to be second) bosses old L77 I just used a stubby impact with a bit of locktight when doing his balancer and he sold it to the CEO's son and it's still pumping along with no issues 4 years later.

yes it is highly recommended to replace the bolt. It is the highest torqued bolt on the entire car. There is no key way on the crank or the pulley so it only the bolt pressure holding it in place pretty much.
I had mine pinned when I put the blower on to stop it slipping on the crank.

I suspect the front control arm bolt on the CrossTrac equipped models was close to that. Ridiculous torque. The bolts front and rear are suspiciously like balancer bolts from some random GM model.

Is it radiator out to get the balancer off?
Or just a few layers of cardboard down the radiator to protect it a bit?

Around 1/3 the price. It's weeping and needs replacing.
