Back to front.

Not exactly either. After delving a bit deeper, it appears both L76 and L77 both had active DOD but only in autos and neither had it activated in manual. L76 in VZ didn't have it activated at all. It's a murky world.

My understanding is that in VE, L76 was auto (with DOD activated) and L77 manual (No DOD activated).

In VF 1, all L77 (auto & manual) with DOD activated in auto and not in manual.

Oh for the simple times of the injected 5 litre.

Yep, although things got a bit confusing in the 90s what with leftover 4-bolt stuff in VP, Harrop/chev parts and then COME/ACL parts in strokers and factory relieved blocks having no capacity stamps etc. Fun times.

I came across this site which I hadn't seen before:

This is the cam specs . If u can read this what stall should be matched with it and how far down the rev rang can u go if it's to high of a stall . If if I give it a shoe full down low if will cough and take of is that the cam not at rev rang then hits it and takes off . Out it coz it's running rich or both . I'm herring that they should of got 430-450 @ rw if the tune is done right .. might be a trip to aucks or new Plymouth one garage said they could do rebuild for 8 k

Unless you take photos of the invoice and post them up we can't really make that call.
The 65 hours might've been justified but again if not break down of work done you can't call out that business for doing the wrong thing.
What you're doing is making claims with no proof on a public forum which is deformation unless the accusations are true. But you can't sustain your position without evidence.
I have the paper work if u want to see it

It's not a huge cam. 230°/230° @ 0.050" on 114LSA

Sounds to me like a tune/converter issue.

Yes well seeing as they have been named it's probably a good thing if you post the invoice up with personal details blacked out.
We could then inspect it and see if it really was an overcharge.

I've been in the trade for 14 years so I know a thing or two.

L98 isn't that the engine used with the manual transmissions and don't have DOD like the L76 does?

Correct. And exactly the reason I bought a manual VE SSV with the L98 as I didn’t want any of that DOD crap.

From what I have been researching yes the manual L98 in Australia doesn't have DOD, but autos do. It would seem that in the US have it on the L98 both manual and auto.
That then makes a manual more appealing than it was, if I won't have to spend close to $2k carrying out a preventive repair.
Forgive my ignorance too if I am wrong about which engine the auto has, I'm not 100% up with all that as Google info is difficult to decifer, if you have limited knowledge.

The “L98“ in America is actually a completely different engine from way back in the early 90s IIRC. So when you go on American forums and they are discussing the L98 they aren’t talking about the engine fitted to our Commodores.

Here is some good info on the “Aussie” L98.

Yea that is a baby cam. I was specing a cam out on a 7l for good torque the other day and I was at 258° on intake and 260+ on exhaust and it still didn't want to make power past 6.5.
