the quality has come a long way if you know where to get it. Kazaa, share bear, lime wire etc were very iffy back in the day. These days the files are rated by other users according to quality, and if they are real etc. TPB, isohunt and eztv are the best.

It is stealing and has a specific offence under the crimes act of Australia (and most other jurisdictions of the western world).
It's not stealing..

"Copyright holders frequently refer to copyright infringement as "theft." In copyright law, infringement does not refer to actual theft, but an instance where a person exercises one of the exclusive rights of the copyright holder without authorization.[5] Courts have distinguished between copyright infringement and theft, holding, for instance, in the United States Supreme Court case Dowling v. United States (1985) that bootleg phonorecords did not constitute stolen property and that "interference with copyright does not easily equate with theft, conversion, or fraud. "

Which government given right is that??? There is no Australian bill of rights about anything, let alone copying your favourite tunes/movie without paying for it.

I'm not sure about the legalities several hundred years ago but Australian law only started with Federation in 1901. Before that we operated under British law. The current laws were introduced in the late 60's and have been regularly updated ever since. Some light reading for you:http://www.copyright.org.au/

The right the govt wrote laws to give people, it doesn't need to be in a bill of rights. It's a legal right because the Govt says so.

Movies sold to Blockbuster and the like for hiring purposes cost Blockbuster way more than your typical $30 for a dvd at JB Hifi. That extra money is for the hiring license that goes back to the copywrite holder. Thus if you would have otherwise hired a DVD, indirectly the legitimate owners of the media do miss out.

I dont rent movies either. Havent in a long time. Mostly because everytime we do someone forgets to return it and we get a massive fine.

I very occasionally buy a movie on Foxtel, but again very limited choice so what I download is actually never on there.

I always rent movies. I still frequently go to the cinemas and see the latest movies, too. I like it, lazy night in with a few dvd's and some Pods

Fail link. "Copyright" and Copyright law directly applying to Australia are 2 very different things. Last I checked, US legal precedents mean absolutely zero in Australia.

Specifically, which right would this be and where would I find it on a .gov.au type website???

Duh. It's in our Bill of Rights, our Congressmen discuss it with our President and it violates our Freedom of Speech laws and our 1st Amendment.
Obviously

:lmao:
