id prob get the vernier out and measure it crank to outer seal gap to make sure its center, main issue with the back case is the sump is also secured to it so that bottom side has to be flat with the sump to seal as well as centered at the crank, when first fitted it will prob be off center then with the 2 sump bolts tightened up it should find its place then do up the plate bolts, double check alignment before final torque start with sump bolts first to square it up, also dont use grease on the seal just some engine oil to slide on firstIf you buy a new plate with the seal already installed, I’m not sure how you do the alignment? Maybe it’s just eyeballed?
1st mention of the barbell here yet some YouTube tutorials say to swap it out every time. Screw into it and pull gently with a hammer claw...Holden replaced rear seals with new plates as they warped...was common issue.
Good time to replace barbell might get bit more oil pressure back if lucky.
Yeah gonna order an alignment tool plus plate (genuine) Seems like I might as well replace the sump gasket while at it..Rocker cover comparison is not the best example
Seal or seal and plate replacement is up to you. Given the hard time you give it, might be best to go plate with seal inplace.
- Rear main isn't easy to get to unlike rocker covers
- Rocker covers don't warp
Tool + seal is almost seal and plate cost
Yeah, and while the sumps off, pull the caps and check the bearing surfaces…. after running down the rabbit hole you’ll end up with a new one of the followingYeah gonna order an alignment tool plus plate (genuine) Seems like I might as well replace the sump gasket while at it..
