niiiiiice. ok, im starting to think you have a really nice base here. the rust around the passenger side of the boot seal is pretty common, and not too difficult to fix. just cut the whole channel off a donor, dot bother trying to fix just that section.

but the drivers side looks pretty f'ken mint all things considered. you may have to bronze some of those pits, but it doesnt look too bad. once you hit it hard with a wire wheel you will get an idea of how deep the pits go. let me just say my old VK was a LOT worse than yours.

in fact, looking at the holes in the parcel shelf, you may be best off getting the whole panel in 1 piece and spot welding it in. itll save you a heap of fking around.

nice. cant wait to see more

I think I may have jumped the gun with my doubts. You've kept up with this, which is great to see, very keen to watch this progress - I really hope you fix her up like she deserves.

check all your bores for wear, strip the head down and check out all your valves mainly exhaust valves and check your valve guides arent flogged out. you will need to order a rebuilt it which i highly advise you do as it comes with all new gaskets, bearings, welsh plugs (if they are ####ed) etc. there is alot more for me to tell you and for you to check out but let me know if you want more info.
if the motor has done alot of work i suggest you get it reconditioned by an engine reco. but if you dont wanna spend money on it just replace what needs to be and slap it back together its your call
