I believe this is true but I also believe that you can't remove air bags. In other words, if the car came out with side air bags then you can't remove them (putting in seats with no airbags is removing them) so if you were to have an accident with side impact and the air bags did not deploy questions might be asked.

Well what is wrong with the the seats? If they are torn or damaged in anyway, just take the seat to an upholsterer, and they can repair it. They do a fantastic job too.

Probably not. It will depend on how slack the inspector is, but since they usually check the odometer he will no doubt see the airbag light.

No, the SRS system has to be in full working order to be roadworthy, if the light is on then it's not working at all.
There's no option than to repair the fault, there's also an audible alarm so trying to cheat it and remove the globe will make them look further with scantools.

You need to get it scanned for faults, fix the fault and then clear the fault code in the computer.

Have you still got the old seats?

Remove the airbags from the old seats and install them into the new seats.
Its quite simple to do.

The error will remain until you have a tech 2 to remove it
