Hi all,

Well its time for a new transmission (6L80) as I have the shuddering and gear slip and flair its done 260thou ks serviced every 50-60thou ks and I was wondering if its as simple as just getting a new or second hand one and just swapping it over or is there more to it like transferring the TCM or having to reprogram for the new trans as the car has been tuned, I've heard stories of putting in the new trans and the car not working or starting and I've also heard the complete opposite.

any advice would be much appreciated.

Just bite the bullet and get it rebuilt..cheaper in the long run as your buying could be potentially someone else’s problem.
I got my trans rebuilt at Global Transmissions in O’Connor/Bibra lake.
Full rebuild with converter could cost up to 5500 grand, they are not cheap and if it’s for a proformance engine get them to install a bunch of Sonnax upgrade parts, (1234 billet piston,456 clutch apply kit and more importantly for the Valve body a Zip kit with the TCC clutch apply valves by TransGo)this will dramatically help your trans last as long as the car itself…also tighten up your fluid changes especially if your dragging or tracking the thing.

Surprisingly, generally GM has been pretty good in this respect unlike a lot of Euro and Japanese brands, possibly because of the aftermarket. It's largely a bolt and plug it in and drive away kind of deal, no complicated pairing or anything like that.
