This isn't actually Conroy's idea, it was the brain fart of a house of reps standing committee...

And who commissioned the standing committee? One Mr ******** Conroy.

Maybe the portal is going after Mr Conroy?

Mac people - There are viruses out there, and plenty of security flaws. They can't stick with this ignorant view forever. When someones wants to develop something really destructive for Macs, they will, but only when they become more popular. That is already happening, so it wont be long until security flaws are found and exploited.

— Companies who release IT products with security vulnerabilities should be open to claims for compensation by consumers.

Now this is stupid. Programs always have bugs, and I'm guessing this will only apply to Australian developed programs. Way too push more program development to overseas countries.

There can and have been viruses for Mac, true. The thing that works on the side of Mac users is firstly that Windows is still the dominant OS - so if a virus developer wants maximum impact they're better off targeting Windows.

As Macs continue to gain market share no doubt we'll start to see more viruses targeted at Macs, fortunately the Unix underpinnings of OSX giving a running start, as BSD is an established architecture with a strong security focus and a lot of public interest. Does this make OSX immune? Not at all, there are security holes found every day, but it helps tip the odds. It wasn't really till Vista/Windows 7 that we saw a serious ground-up approach to OS security from Microsoft. For a long time one of the leading reasons why Windows computers were so virus-prone, was because viruses didn't need a "backdoor", Microsoft had shown them the front door and given them the keys with IE/ActiveX! To my knowledge it's never been possible to get a virus on a Mac simply by viewing a webpage, as has been he case with Windows thanks to ActiveX. Let's hope they learned from that mistake.

The moral of the story is not that Macs are immune, but rather than Windows is still the low hanging fruit if you're in that game.

For the record I use a Mac and a PC daily.

I imagine he did commission it, but the point is the standing committee would have conducted this study and developed the recommendations - not him. Standing committees are substantive bodies which persist beyond the incumbency of the current government.

Just goes to show he's not the only person with "Communications" in his name who's completely ****ing retarded.
