Now that I know the problem, should i just replace the racks?
Brand new vs refurbished?
Should I also change the pump?
Should I also change the hose?

There is only one rack, reconditioned will be fine. Brand new will cost a fortune.
It recommended to do the pump as well, reconditioned will be fine, brand new will be affordable.
No need to change hoses unless they are leaking or perished.

How bad is the leak and where? You can pick up a recondition one on Ebay for around 250 mark, my mates vt s2 rack was quoted 800 at a mechanic to supply and fitted, if you do change it out count the turns until both tie rod ends fall off and write both down so when replacing them you can roughly have it close to the alignment, but have it done after fitting the new rack.

Noisy lifters are very common with a high klm V6's a not no real concern.
Thanks to someones recommendation in here we started using the Nulon high klms 20/50 oil and the Nulon noisy lifter additive and now at start up the noise lasts 3 second and then returns to its lovely operating musical.
