OBD 2 scan tool

Hi all. I want to buy the OBD 2 scan tool and I want to know if the connector fits any car or do I have to stipulate that it's for a commodore VZ? There are 16 pins in my car but not all of them are workable, meaning some of the pins are just black holes and some have metal in them. ( hope it made sense)

OBDII is the connector. Anything OBDII will fit your car.

Your options range from a $6 ebay cable that plugs in to your laptop, up to thousands of dollars of professional scan tool equipment. I have a $6 cable that checks and clears codes fine but doesn't do anything more advanced.

Whatever you get, do some research or pray like hell it works because it is totally hit and miss whether it works. Also, some chinese clones work better and have more features than legit local ones.

I brought a 50 dollar OBD2 scanner from Ebay. reads all the codes on the VZ and will clear all engine based codes. not the airbag and ABS codes though. It was great for getting all the live sensor data and working out a few hickups. cheaper laptop and cable OBD2 devices will do the same thing though.
