Fueled the car up and then when driving down the road, I hit reset on the trip meter. Several km later I realised the Odometer had stopped, as had the trip meter. Drove to work today, still no change, hit the top of the dash while driving, still no change.
trip meter at 000/0
odometer at the same as what it was around 20km ago

Anyone out there come across this same issue?? What did you do to fix?

Possibly a loose/faulty VSS (vehicle speed sensor). Auto or manual?

My bet it is the cog in the cluster needs to be replaced.

it's an Auto. It happened the same time as I pressed the trip reset button. And not a second sooner. it seems to coincidental to be that.

My bet it is the cog in the cluster needs to be replaced.

that sounds more like it,
is it an easy thing to check? or is it a 'pull dash out & inspect' kind of job?

if it was this the speedo wouldn't be working among other serious noticeable issues and a check engine light complaining that there is a fault....

+1 James, as has been discussed/mentioned and written about numerous times on the forum it'll be a plastic cog in the speedo assembly has broken......

Cheers for that, clearly i am hopeless at the 'search' function, or was too useless to scroll back far enough to find a thread on it.

I will pull dash out later this week, and probably put my oil pressure gauge in at the same time. :spot on: win/win

Be careful removing the dash fascia, they get really brittle. I broke the clips in mine not too long ago.

That's the one. Just make sure you look over the whole thread, especially post #51 about not needing to remove the speedo needle for the reasons it discusses.

I also found when I did mine that I had to manually wind it forward quite a bit (say 15 km) before it started working properly. Some people say it's not necessary but when I first did mine it stopped after less than 1 km so I had to pull it out again.

Easy job though.
