Hi All
Has anyone here had a go at doing an oil change on a VE L77 motor. I'd like to try it but there is'nt much room underneath. Can this be done with jack stands or is a hoist the only way?

Cheers

Jack stands or ramps works.

Just need to get it high enough to put a large tub underneath to drain the oil into.

a very large tub with oil deflector.... :)
as when you take the sump plug out, oil will be squirting all over your LH front wheel and chassis
if you don't have something to stop that

if you use standard car ramps also have some 4"x2"handy to put in front of ramps, if the car has been lowered it will hit the ramps with the spoiler (ss, sv6) will not sure with calais

Never had oil hit anything other than the drain pan. It's a clear shot straight into it.

Shout yourself and oil sucker vacuum pump thingy - its the best investment in DIY car care and it takes the oil out through the dipstick with no fuss bother or ramps. Perfect!

How do you change the oil filter with that oil sucker vacuum thingy? Either way you need get to the sump because thats where the oil filter is.

Ive never had an issue with oil hitting anything. It maybe shoots 10cm away from the sump? Undo the sump, position your pan, dont undo the filter until the sump plug stream becomes less of a gushing stream and problem solved.

Should be fine to do it with ramps. Just make sure you get ramps wide enough for your wheels.

I have never had issues with my aim hitting the pan either, just the dribble at the end sometimes misses.
