ok old black betty numbers are as follow
8K69RKH5189248 or aB
vin# 0VB4488148
no paint code as missing comp plate BUT IS RTA REGISTERED as a 1978 holden vb sle ( originally a 253 and same vin# etc.
(blue in colour according to old rego slips)
my panel beater sprayed over numbers making it hard to read ( I told him not to paint numbers but he not listen. and why so f#@!ing hard to read in the photo.
If you know what the car was originally I would love to know as when I bought had 4 speed, vynle seats blue headliner, not velour, no a/c, and non-woodgrain dash , dash is blue cerulean with all sle instrumentation and winder windows.
ORIGINAL 253 V8 (AS PER RTA REGO SLIPS motor numbers before I swapped out to 308) headlight wipers(( still have motors and wiring in car for h/light wipers.

Have you got any of the 2 large tags? That is the smaller of the 3 tags that goes inbetween the 2 large tags........

The 2 large tags have the vin number along with all the codes for what was fitted and the ADR's it complies with....It also says what year the car was made

Rego slips aren't really much proof....The VIN numbers on these were stamped into the radiator support panel and if the car has had this replaced with a 2nd hand one, the vin numbers won't be the same as what the car left the factory with.....So having the large compliance plate with the VIN would be great to help try and determine a few details

Another factor we have to consider is, how long have you owned the car? With the car being 43 years old, who knows what has been changed....Dash cluster and seats are easy to swap out....It takes all of half hour to do...Window winders....Some people i know throw out electric windows and out window winders in place, so this car may have had this down....Headlight wipers....I bought a set from a wrecker 4 years ago, that had 3 sets in total....All this era commodore had the cut outs in the beaver panel to fit them up....So that doesn't mean a great deal...

Engine....Easy swap out...Change the number with the rego office and bob is your uncle....

So what you think as having a rare SLE maybe in fact the case that some one has changed parts to make it like a rare SLE when it is a base model car from the production line....

Just to help things along.....My VC has SLX door cards (map holders in them from a VH), woodgrain dash and panel beside it, VB/VC SLE instrument cluster, cloth rear seat with split fold centre piece (from a base model VH) and front seats from a VS Commodore and a high rise console, that I can't remember where it came from....I haven't fitted the headlight wipers yet....So can I say my car is a rare VC SLX/SLE?

The thin tag, 8K69RKH518924 B, tells me its a base model VB Commodore, not SL/E.

That's why vinyl headlining and seats.

Also its a chassis number stampted into the radiator support panel, not VIN.

8K69RKH5189248 or aB
vin# 0VB4488148

Right, lets get this one right.
8K69RKH518924 B, this is whats called VIN. Tech its not like the 1988 onwards VIN.
8VK69 is Holden base model sedan,
R is 4.2 litre V8
K denotes year, 1980. This could mean its an September 1979 onwards, Holden had a weird manufacturing year from September to August
H518924 tells me its built in Sydney, the numbers are Production Sequence number. Would be same as body number on ID plate.

0VB4488148, this is a Chassis number, would be stamped on the radiator support panel and also the safety compliance plate. Not a VIN.

Your info is correct on that tag 8K69RKH518924 B number for the Vehicle Identification Plate. Its a 1980 SL build not a 1978 SLE as the owner claims. Since he hasnt got the Body + Options Plate and the Safety Compliance Plate and no chassis number readable on raditor support panel to support his claims.
Also its a chassis number stampted into the radiator support panel, not VIN.
Just to add some info, here in SA the govt lists the chassis number as the vin number on our rego papers.

If you think your car is a 1978 VB SLE then the Vehicle ID Plate info you posted to identify doesnt match your car body, someone has done a switch years ago.

Its not a SL, its VB base model.
The VIN needs to be 8VL69 for SL.

yer mateI meant the same thing since vb's didnt have many models apart from the 8VX69 he thinks he has.
1978vcar said the painter painted over his chassis stamp, why didnt he rub paint of with thinners or better still, get a torch and look under support rail, most times numbers dents are just visible underneath.
