Hi,
I used to work for GH-H at Dandenong around 1981-82. During that time we made VH Commodores as well as Camira's and ISUZU trucks.
I remember that we made a batch of Orange VH 253 cu manual sedans. This wasn't a current colour and I think they had a 5 speed box which was also unusual. They didn't come down the line in one hit, there were 3 or 4 per day for several weeks so all up there were about 100 made. To this day I don't know who bought them or where they were headed and I sure would like to know. Does anyone know? Could it be some sort of Emergency Services car, or maybe for a mine? Or perhaps a prize that some company gave out (similar to the Mary Kay Pink cars we produced over the years, but that's another story).
Working there was good fun and after starting there in the paint booth I was promoted to the Production Control team, who was in charge of knowing where every car was at anytime on the line. It took exactly 5 days to produce a car.
Anyway, any info would be greatly received.
Many thanks.
Andy.
