As you can see there is hardly any room for air .as shown in the pictures the only place air can get in is between the top of the chrome part on the grill and the bonnett. 1517112718297.jpg 20180204_162529.jpg

The good OTR CAI hang down in front of the radiator.

Here's a good NZ one,

I saw in the installation of the orrsom intake you're meant to cut a portion of the rubber seal attached to the bonnet for airflow

That will still allow only minimal gap for air to enter. There is only abfew mm between top of the grille and the bonnet

I had one of these on my old Ve ute kept throwing engine lights saying it was lean I can't see how they get heaps of air thru that small gap ended up taking it off and putting standard box back on it actually felt better more responsive after I did that

Have already cut the rubber , i am thinking of cutting a few air slots . Not decided yet think about making a bigger airflow into the original airbox and going back to that. I have swapped between the original and the orrsum and with the orrsum it seems to be snappier.

I don’t think the Orssom will work well with the chrome insert, no. See workaround below.
Yes you do need to cut the rubber for VCM and Orssom, as mentioned above. Also a good idea to run a strip of anti-draft door jam insulation tape from the opening in the seal at the front, to the opening vent of the CAI.

Also to complete the shroud, fold back the hood lining so it doubles up to form a barrier on top of the vent.
It is also a good idea to insulate between the resonator and the radiator.
I was concerned with gettting max cold air into the vent at one point, so I bought a length of 5” intake conduit from a truck parts place.

Ported the plastic grille top and ran the pipe as afresh aim dam from the lower grille.

So if there was ever a doubt about availability of cold fresh air, 1500+ CFM at that height off the road surface put paid to that.

But it’s the major incredibly annoying truth about over the radiator CAI that in traffic IATs can be 70+°C else less than ambient at highway speed. It is this range of (un)predicitability that one has to weigh up the impact of heatsoak on performance.
Basically I went through a range of IAT insulating / chilling measures before I decided to change fuel composition to higher ethanol. There is no knock below 130° IAT.
Best CAI for majority urban driving is pod insulated from bay heat behind headlight, taking air about same height.
