probably compressed natural gas.

converting a car to electric is expensive, $2000 - $3000 for the motor, another $3000 for batteries, high current motor speed controller, and everything else.

you'd probably be looking at an $8000 outlay, for a vehicle which would save you $3000 - $4000 a year? and would most likely need the batteries replaced every 4 - 5 years.

I suppose it would save you money, but you'd still need a second car for longer trips! meaning a second insurance, rego, and maintenance expense.

in all honesty hydrogen would work, its a matter of building an engine and tuning it to run richer mixes of hydrogen and petrol.

I wonder what it would be like with some boost.

dirty old diesel running waste vegetable oil.

some NZ'er has now also gotten on this band wagon. local journo is watching it's progress. going to report back in a month or so to compare "before" and "after" fitting of HHO generator. will update when the results are in
