Should mention also, if you plan on using it for gaming, go an LCD, plasma's suck ass for animation.

Great topic, we are looking at buying a couple of tv's for the new house, does anyone have any advice as to whether plasma or lcd would be better with kids, specifically which would be less prone to damage?

you touch them or lay them on there sides and they break

Not a bad idea, and pretty obvious why didn't I think of that! I will only have to worry about by 2 yr old throwing something at it then lol
