The one I had on my car when I got it, has a brass rivet looking thing in the middle holding the rubber gasket in place,
the current version genuine cap has some kind of plastic valve there.
Both caps are "coolant recovery" and genuine of the same pressure rating.
Whats the deal ?
Prior to my 7000km driving holiday i installed a new one just to be sure, along with a new radiator. The cap has failed and doesn't hold pressure at all - when cold, squeezing the upper hose directs coolant straight into the recovery bottle with no resistance, and releasing it sucks it back up again. It did not behave in this manner when i first installed it.
Fortunately i never had any issues and only discovered it by accident when checking the car over at home (holiday over now) Never had any over heating issues or otherwise, no loss of coolant.
Can you still buy the old style cap? I've put the old, original one back on and it works as its supposed to, ie, actually holds pressure. Maybe i'll just leave it on there.
