Hi

A couple of weeks ago as I was turning left, another driver to the right of me hit my car right on my drivers side door (I believe he was trying to make the same left hand turn but because the car behind me was parking he sped around me)
After us both pulling over the other driver kept stating the damage was under $200 to repair and he was trying to wipe the damage away. As he did not want to exchange details, I contacted the police at the scene for them to arrive. Before I could finish the call the other drive just drove off after verbally abusing me.

Two weeks later and after doing a police report, the officer tells me his story is different to mine, no other witness present except one passenger in my car and a passenger in the other car which is useless. He drives off and Im calling the police and still I look as guilty as him. He gets away free from everything and Im left with damage estimated to be upwards of $2000. I want avoid paying my $650 excess. His car was worth $1000-1500 with damage everywhere and the police say to me there isn't consistent damage on his car??

Can anyone tell me if they know someone in Sydney, northern beaches pref, who could repair this? Or is this a smash repairer job only?

I just dont understand the logic of people hitting a car, with a 80% chance of no one acting as witness, and getting away free by simply driving off.

cheers

Go through your insurance company. Get them to do the investigation. That's what they are for.

Thank you. I have commenced this with little hope if the other guy has began lying.

Weather it's $1 damage or a total loss, leaving the scene of an accident is against the law no-matter who is at fault. I presume you have the offending driver's rego number? If so pass all the information to the police and your insurance company. It may be a you said/he said situation however it won't sit well that he has refused to give you his details. Further, the insurance investigators are usually pretty good at working out who is lying and who isn't.

It's the world mate no one takes responsibility for there actions run away or blame another party is the norm now days. Just get your insurance to sort it out for you and get your car fixed and move on it sucks that the way it has played out. I'm sure you feel better once your cars all fixed.

Thanks everyone for your genuine assistance. Ill update this thread once NRMA returns in a few more weeks. At this stage I am still trying to get my head around the other drivers excuse. Apparently if you are on the phone to 000 (recorded convo) then the police cant use audio as evidence in their investigation because "they cant determine who is talking" while clearly you can hear the male and female of the other car verbally abusing me and driving off when I tried to call the police to visit the scene. And apparently the police agree with the other driver that I did not want to exchange details with the other driver even though I was the one calling the police whilst he was doing a runner... absolute garbage. fingers crossed NRMA sorts it.

it's one of the reasons I always help people out if I see an accident and leave my details for contact - I hope that some day other people would do the same for me.

When you think about it all the other guy has to do is say - meh, not me and what can you do?
