VT SS 5.0L Manual
Hey guys, so i moved into a new house recently and I have discovered I don't trust the area. So I'm chasing an after market security system for my SS as it lives under a carport and wouldn't be all that hard to steal.

Now I have done some research and looked at a number of different systems on the market. All of the systems i have seen either have a remote or transponder that you attach to your keys to disable the immobiliser/alarm. This is not what I want because thieves these days will break into the house to steal the keys and then steal the car.

What i want is a security system that even if you have the keys/remote etc can not be started unless you do something within the car and can be done fairly discreetly from the drivers seat. Ah a kill switch i hear you say?
Well i really don't want a kill "switch" because most thieves know they exist and will be looking for one, and within close reach of the driver they will find it pretty quickly.

I saw a system a while ago where you had to touch 2 certain metal parts in the car which were part of the trim and you use your body to complete the circuit which would bring the car to life allowing you to start it. This is exactly what im looking for. I know these systems are available for a VT because the system I have seen/used was on an SV99.
I spoke to an auto electrician who said he has seen the systems, however, not for a long time and isn't sure if they are still available.

My questions to you are.

1. Do you know the system I looking for?
2. Do you know where I can get it?
3. Do you have any alternative ideas or suggestions regarding my issue?

Thanks for all input

First of all make sure your car is insured. Second of I am not convinced thieves would be so desperate to steal a holden ss commodore that they would break into your home to look for the key knowing there is a potential for someone to be home. Thirdly, if thieves want to steal your car they will. Just make sure it is locked, steering lock on and insured.

Viper Bluetooth alarm. Disarms when your phone approaches it.

First of all one thread is more then enough. Second why not a Transporter key pad cos they are awesome, just get one with metal buttons so they dont show the wear.

Often these fancy alarms are just wired in behind the dash and can easily be bypassed at the relay box under the bonnet anyway. They're mostly overpriced security theatre.

You could get devious and cut the signal wire from the crank angle sensor to the ECU or similar. Something that can't be easily bypassed. When I had an old MK2 escort I had a killswitch that grounded the ignition coil, try to start it with the coil grounded and the coil will burn out pretty quickly, then it's going no-where.

I've also thought about using the horn button as a killswitch and sticking the actual horn control somewhere else, no-one's going to hit the horn while trying to steal a car. Probably not roadworthy like that though. TBH these days I just leave the factory system alone and pay my insurance, these cars already have immobilsers and are too old to be a target for pros.

Install a Kill Switch.

But if you want one with bells and whisltes, a nice alarm would be your choice.

Get one professionally installed.

Viper should do the trick.
There is one also that uses the normal keypad on the commodore so you dont have to use additional key pads etc.

+1 for the Viper.

You could also remove a relay or two for now.
Fuel pump....start relay, for example.
Don't think too many car thief's would go around with a selection of relays in there arsenal.

Relays are just switching contacts. Can easily be bypassed with some wire/paper clip/ foil. By removing the relay your just pointing out which one needs to be bridged out.
