OK now who knows how the HVAC unit is connected to the car?
The only two places I can see might be the at the TX valve and on the other side where the heater core is.

Doesn't seem to be anything on the bottom because I can get a fair bit of movement there from the unit.
I can't see any fixing points inside the car.

I don't know if this will help.
On my vt there is 4 bolts in the engine bay (eb)on the firewall. One is located on the left side of the heater core (eb), then 3 more along the same line. There is 2 bolts that hold the hvac up towards the dash. The bolts are situated high, closer to the dash & are inside the cabin. The tx valve has to come out too.

Probably won't be the same, but maybe similar?

Hope it helps?

Yep, got them.
Finally found the HVAC Removal in the manual.
Almost the same.

Two inside up top are already removed as part of the I/P assembly removal.
Three fixing points, one at heater outlet, one at TX valve and the other further across nearer the cabin filter.

Nope. Tomorrow I hope. Need to disconnect the heater core, flush the coolant out, blow the water through, so none dribbles in the car. Might rig up a pipe on the garden blower to blow out the water.

If the heater core goes on one of these it’s not a big deal. Unlike previous models, it slides out. So you would only have to remove the lower parts of the dash.

Also cap off/pinch off the heater hoses so less air gets in.

The TXV has knobs on it by the look.
I will put bags over the pipes and tape off so no gunk gets in.

Had to remove the entire paneling around the wipers. The pollen filter looked mouldy. Yuck.

Fu Manchu, any chance you’ve got any pics of the dash removed. I ask as I’ve got a leak in mine and it’s coming from behind the insulation up the top of the dash on the drivers door side. I’d like to get an idea on what’s around that area.

Holy crap dude. I am planning on doing a write up on this because as of now, there isn’t one that exists on the net.

I will try to get some pics for you. I am almost about to put the trims back and glove box etc.

Until then, the only thing that can leak is the windscreen. That’s glued in with adhesive sealant.

I’m pretty stoked that this project has already helped many others with all sorts of issues.

Ok. Here’s some.
The leaks could happen from:
1. Windscreen
2. Pedal plate
3. The seal around the heater pipes in the pedal plate.
4. The pedal plate could be rusted out like I found mine to be due to poor design. Welds were over enthusiastic and rust had started and finished off where ever things were welded.

It can also leak from the seal around the pedal plate but that would be unlikely because of how it seals. Goes on as a thick foam and squashes down after install.

*I would not have discovered this rust if it weren’t for the HVAC having to come out. It required a lot of extra work cleaning up the fire wall, painting, and more.

I would of found this was rusted when the brake pedal went through the fire wall. I don’t want to think of how that would of ended. So I went from cursing this evaporator core to feeling blessed.

It was all hidden behind carpet and sound insulation inside and on the outside, hidden behind the insulation panel. Needless to say, that insulation panel did not go back in and this is also the case on some VF in that area.

I got suss to the rust when I had to remove the accelerator and it was loose. The mount had rusted off. I could push my finger through.
