yea bought the oil pressure switch off ebay, $31 posted, and got a kinchrome socket which fits for about $20 at autoone.
my local repco had the switches for about $80 but i'd rather save $50 and wait a few more days.

looks like about a 2 min job once it all shows up, and i know almost nothing about engines.
can't believe holden would actually charge $300 for this, I'm in the wrong business.

Some after market sensors won't work. We only use OE as I've had 3 crook new after market sensors.

it says it's genuine holden in the ad and saw a few others with the same item, brand is AC Delco, is it just a cheap aftermarket or genuine holden?

cheers mate, was a bit worried about such a cheap price, but that's quite reassuring. better than $295.

Quick update on this, my switch arrived from ebay yesterday. After letting the engine cool a bit, took approx 2.5 minutes to change, in total. For anyone else make sure you have a rag under neath as it may drip out a small amount of oil before you screw the new one back in. SVS problem has also disappeared, the SVS message did pop up immediately the first time I turned it back on, I assume a leftover fault, and then hasn't come back since, so it also clears by it's own, no need to pay for this either.

Total cost of repair less than $50.

yeh you need a tube socket i forgot what size, i did mine couple months ago and just clear the fault code when done.

I have a supply of good quality KingTool chrome vanadium oil pressure switch tools that I can sell for $10.50 + postage.
I tried Repco, Bursons, Supercheap Auto, Autobarn, Bunings, Mitre10 and even a specialist tool shop but no one had any. (current at 31st July 2014)
The dual size sockets (1" and 1-1/16") require a 3/8" square drive or 3/4" hex tool and make the job so easy.
Just message me or contact me on 0425 824 333 if you need one. Cheers, Rodney.
