Steering lock not engaging

Hi all I have a Vc brock commodore and ever since I tried to replace the steering column lock barrel the steering lock won’t engage .It all seems fine with the barrel out but I can’t install it with the lock engaged.When the barrel goes back in it will only engage the steering lock a couple of mm .Steering wheel won’t lock and the barrel turns without a key.Any thoughts on what I may have done wrong to fix problem would be appreciated.Thanks
