day by day :p

undo plug at the bottom of radiator and drain coolant.
fill with demineralized water or tap water and run for 10 minutes then wait until it cools/no pressure and drain again.

prepare a 50/50 mix if using concentrate or use premix and fill again, start engine with radiator cap off and monitor for 5 minutes adding coolant as needed.
if using concentrate dont be a tightass and use demineralized water, it is 5 bucks.

put cap on and drive for 20 minutes then wait until cool and check and topup as needed.
drive normallay for a day or 2 and check and top up if needed.

job done.
Thanks, I saw a few other more complicated than this one. Sounds like a plan

Husband decided to do it " his way" which involved put the drain plug, but only got a dribble so undone top radiator hose which achieved more flow. Pulled radiator cap off with car running and added 6 litres coolant via reservoir
Took car for a drive and I noticed the thermo fan was on, which is unusual
Came home and put it into engineering mode and coolant temp was 114
Reservoir dipstick had no coolant on it but radiator outlet was overflowing
Added more to reservoir till it read full but coolant temp still rising
Car has been siiting all night now
I dunno why he did it the way he did but can someone tell me what I should do now please, and be gentle
If I had the money it would have gone to a mechanic

Since chenka44's husband appears to have either not bothered with the advice from here, and the symptoms seem to point to air in the system, would following your bleed instructions maybe fix it?

I dunno why he did it the way he did

i can answer that: he was impatient and did not know what he was doing lol.

just take the cap off before starting it at all then add coolant if needed (keep the cap off).
let the vehicle run(idle) for 10 minutes with heater on high adding coolant as needed.
once it is up to operating temp you can stop the vehicle, top up coolant if needed put the cap back on and then you take it for a short drive.

wait for it to cool then check it again and top up if needed then drive it like normal for a day or two and check it once more after that day or two.

It won't be damaged by this at all? I may have to Afterpay a mechanic about 5 ks away

no, if you have 6 liters in the radiator you are only getting the air out of the system.
the reason you let it idle up to operating temp is to get the thermostat to open for a solid flow of coolant which helps push the air out.

you can use a bleed funnel/bucket to automate the needing to top up and watch it but it is not necessary to use one.
