Got a quick question for you guys

Doing the complete install on the weekend.
Question is: when I have the rear seat removed in the GTO for the install, I have heard that I must be very careful not to set the airbags off. can this happen with the airbags with the seat out?

And if so, How can I test the stereo system is working before I put all the seats and trim back in without me setting off the airbags?

I know to have the battery disconnected during install. But what about testing

help would be very much appreciated please

As you are aware the airbags are controlled by an electrical pulse which triggers the airbags.

As for you app I only assume that it has FRONT and PASSANGER AIRBAGS only... unless you remove the bumper as smash they YELLOW triggers I highly doubt you will trigger the airbags.

With the Volvo, Mercedes etc that have side curtain airbags this can be an issue when installing, though since you would not have these ... there is nothing to worry about

My only advise is dont touch the SRS circuits... as a pulse or short will trigger the airbags.

Make sure you have fuses installed proir to testing... and you should be fine.

Alot of installers will tell wives tales to stop people installing ... and in your case I think that this is the situation.

Thanks for the help.
I have driver and passenger airbags and side airbags too in the HSV GTO Coupe.

Maybe I saw it on a international forum about removing the back seat in the GTO Coupe an setting off the airbags

We have not done the GTO before.

If you know where the sensor for the side airbags you will just need to avoid it.... say it will behind the trim in the "A" pillar.... might be that some people have taken the rear seat out of the car and forced it out through the door and hit or damaged the yellow sensor for the airbag...... so watch the part of the trim on the same side as the striker plate..

So what did you end up with??

Thanks.
I will have to to remove the rear side panels too, which is a bit of a worry.

I ended up with just a average system because I am saving some money for a Twin Turbo setup

Kenwood DDX 6039 HU
Kenwood KNA-430 SAT NAV
Pac SWI-ALP Revision 1.416( Not available in Aussie) and is wired ,not IR
Alpine SPR-17LS Front
Alpine SPR-17LP Rear shelf
About 8km of cable :)
Jaycar AA-0426 AMP . Got talked into it today when picked up cable today
Alpine 12" Sub ( Old one I had sitting aroud and a Pioneer AMP for it.
And a reverse camera

I know it's just a average system, But I am really looking forward to some Turbo's

The GTO does have side airbags. From memory it was an option in the Monaro.

untrue i'd say.

the wires trace back into the c o c k pit. if you short them out you can trigger the bags.

when you install electrical in a car with airbags it is always smart to disconnect the battery and from memory let the car sit for 10mins before you touch it because a slight pulse may set ur airbags off.
