It could also be that the amp is running to hot and turns its self off. Mine does it all the time

That could be the problem if the dash lights weren't coming on at the same time.

I was having a similar problem not too long ago.

My stereo would work fine, until I pressed the brake pedal. Once I did that (and the brake lights came on), the stereo would turn off.

If I turned on my headlights, the stereo turned off.

If I had the headlights on and I braked, the headlights dimmed.

It all comes back to a lack of supply voltage, the alternator.

A loose connection in the amplifier would not cause the battery light to come on, it's a voltage issue for sure.

Were you measuring the voltage when the amp cut out? If not, do that and see what the voltage does. If you were, then see if the amp is hot when it is cutting out... Could be over heating. Also, what amp is it and how are the speakers wired to it? If the speakers are wired to be a lower impedence than the amp can handle, it can cause the protection circuit kick in at high volumes.

Nah, it doesn't... He needs someone to measure the voltage while he turns the stereo up to the point that the dash light comes on.

it is a jbl 520 watt amp. The speakers are wired to it liek this:

Pioneer splits hooked up on the bottom row and the sub bridged on the top line...

does this help at all

So "(the front speakers and splits and the sub)" isn't right? You only have one pair of speakers and one sub hooked up to it?

What sub is it?
