haha yeah seems like you have taken care of everything mate.
calais v8: each wire will be rated to the current it can safely carry and this is predominently determined by conductor size and length of the cable. have a quick google of the keywords of "current" and "18AWG". i am sure you will find your answer.
as for wanting to put a fuse in the stock place where is the feed from? IF you can be bothered do it otherwise the possibilty of blowing it is not much unless you decide to play with the stereo live.
