2008 VE Calais V V6 LY7
Hi, how to tell what specific suspension you have ?

Car = 2008 Calais V , V6 Ly7 engine

on my compliance/ID plate is following
Model = VE8EX69
Build = FEB08/BRL
Susp= STD

when everyone is talking FE1, FE2, FE3, what is the differences ?
What is "STD" as on my ID plate?
thanks

You have standard suspension, which means the highest most basic stance the car came with from the factory...The rest are varying levels of height and handling charactastics the factory option

thanks for feedback.

reason wanted to identify as just placed order for front struts Monroe GT gas ( 35-0594 RH, 35-0595 LH) as these are described on monroe catalogue as the VE Calais Excluding lowered suspension. happy days as just wanted to keep whats there, assume its STD as per the build plate..

BUT

found the attached page with Trim Heights from the VE service manual just now, and it mentions only FE1, FR1, FE2 type and how to measure. (no mention of anything STD)

I have just measured distance from my guard to center of wheel hub, Measurement "A" and "B" in the diagram.

I am getting values of approx 390mm +/-5mm depending on your eye angle. Original 18" rims with equivalent 245/45/R18 tyres as was original from factory)

From my Build plate which states suspension as STD. but measurement is closer to FE2 according to the holden table.

crap have i just ordered wrong struts...or can original suspension (13yr old) lower ride height over time ?

really confused now ( FYI i bought this VE when it was 1.5yrs old and assumed all is factory standard, as was not advised anything back then) visually it looks like a stock VE not lowered etc.

any help be appreciated

If it has std on the compliance plate, the shocks you ordered are correct, unless you or someone else has lowered it.....

If you have never replaced the shocks in the 13 years you have owned it, they will be foobarred and yes it will have sagged....Shocks should be changed every 2 to 4 years depending on the mileage travelled.....So in effect you should have swapped out the shocks at least 3 times in the time you have owned the car.

Agree with you the shocks and or coils could possibly use upgrade, despite very low , only done 120k Kms for 2008, hence why investigating all this now to do this.( no issue and not failed yet)

In other forums, they calim that STD on Calais V circa 2008 was FE1.5 ( i cant validate this as only have the Holden trim height specs table and it only talks about (FE1, FR1, FE2)
https://forums.justcommodores.com.au/threads/ve-calais-v-suspension-confusion.137968/

anyone know, does STD = FE1? or different again.

so my unknown confussion is what is STD. Curently car sits at aprox 390mm as per table. (dont know if upgraded prior to my buying @1.5yrs, ior just sagged over the years)
So if i would like to maintain the current look aprox 390mm, see coupe pics

according to King springs, they recommend Monroe GT Sport shocks(reduced height shocks compered to GT Gas).

Found the following JHB shop in melb(unfortunately im syd) where they have a table showing equivalent ride heights with different model King springs

https://jhp.com.au/shop/suspension-brakes/king-spring-set-holden-ve-commodore/

Has anyone put say KingSpring KHFL-150SL on standard shocks (egMonroe GT gas or equivalent) and not the shorter GT Sport type shocks ?
If so what was outcome ?
or if you lower coils you should always get recommended shorted shocks as well?

my objective i guess is to slightly upgrade old 13yr suspension(120K km which not failed yet), whilst keeping the existing ride height..(keep at current approx 390mm gap)

sorry suspension newbie here
so any tips/ advise be greatly appreciated to clear the mud :))

Not sure what other answer you are after from anyone else on here....It has been said time after time, STD on the compliance plate means Standard height...What the factory VE standard height is I have no idea...FE has lower heights than standard.....Depending on the FE depends on the heights, which again, I don't know.

So if you want me to say STD on the compliance plate means anything different than standard, you're out of luck, because it's not going to happen....

I hear you, the confusion comes from the Holden service manual table attached earlier, where they make no mention of STD measurements,
thanks anyway
