Usually the very first time you remove the intake there is a paper gasket, after that buy a metal one

Hi all,
I fitted the Holden metal/rubber gasket between the plenum and the intake manifold. Took the old paper gasket off very carefully. In passing, how flat/level do the inlet manifolds and plenum have to be? Do they warp etc? The new steel/rubber gasket must really flatten out with the 23nm torque on it.
