That Raw power note

You know that sound you hear from a car that's idling and you think "man that sounds mean". Yeah, well I want it!! I have V6 VY SII with only mods so far being 2x 100cell cats and 2 1/2 inch sports (don't know what type). What do I need to do to at least come close to that mean sound?

P.S I'm not getting a V8, this is a new hobby on the side. DIY

It won't really make a mean sound, being a 6. Best I can think of is bigger throttle body, MAF sensor, CAI, full exhaust (2.5inch, extractors, hi flow cat) then a few mods such as rockers and a lumpy cam to suit

Cheers Frogsta for the constructive advice. As for everyone else I'm not trying to making sound like a 8, just the meanest a 6 can. My mate had a VT 6 and it sounded great unlike mine that sounds a bit like a fart.

I have extractors , sports exhaust combined with intake mods , on my ecotec , and it sounds fine , a bit Alfa Romeo like

The issue is, that to get a "Mean" sound you need a mean engine.

The ecotec simply doesn't cut the mustard on that one unless you work the #### out of it.

I mean strocking, cam, manifolds, heads, tuning, etc. Then, you can put a decent exhaust on it and it will sound mean IMO.

You can't achieve a mean sound simply with an exhaust. That and sound is subjective... so what one person considers mean and what another considers mean are different.

For example, I think basically all factory LSx engines sound like crap no matter what exhaust is on them. Too smooth and "meh"

I think that my LS2 sounds alright. I'm happy, people like is generally and all is well. But I wouldn't call it "mean".

That to me is an alright sound, does the job, I'm happy, but not mean.

But I have yet to hear anything v6 that Holden uses sound anything like that.
