As requested for the coffee buffs (or is that snobs :)) out there

We've had a few different machines. Worked out you don't need a fancy machine so this is what we have now and shared by this great TV show.

I'm 100% a certified coffee snob, I drive 45km each way to get my freshly roasted amazon rainforest dark roast beans.

I'm one that can't function until I've had coffee, I wouldn't even trust myself to drive to the servo and back without crashing until I've had my caffeine hit.

Triple shot latte for me. I'm one of those people that if I have to use a pod machine I need about 3-4 pods to get it to a drinkable strength (but they still taste terrible).

Same with iced coffees at the supermarkets, I need the double/triple espresso flavours, the regular ones just taste like sugar and milk otherwise.

I'm also that kind of asshole that won't drink instant coffee at someones house if thats whats on offer, I'd rather just have water than drink that swill. Blend43, Moccona etc all make me gag, coffee should NOT be brewed with boiling water, it's just wrong.

The Mrs has one of those drip style coffee machines, she prefers the simplicity of turning it on, getting ready for work then her coffee being ready by the time she leaves.

I am a certified coffee bogan.
Recipe for 'my' coffee ....... get big mug, boil water, tablespoon of instant Nescafe, 2 tablespoons of sugar, half fill mug with boiling water, other half cold milk, microwave for 2 minutes. :)
Apparently this is the completely wrong way for coffee, which I have been told should be served at 70 > 80 degees C, in a thimble and looks like tar.

After a trip somewhere, I am always looking forward to 'my' coffee, after having been subjected to expertly made, overpriced, luke warm barista coffee.

I worked as a barista for 4 years whilst at uni - definitely love a good coffee. I’ve used a few different machines with built in grinders etc, but I wanted something more ‘industrial’.

The machine I went for is a sunbeam cafe series EM7100. It’s an absolute weapon and basically a cut down commercial machine. However I think this particular model is discontinued, we’ve had ours for over 3 years without issue.

Twin boilers/thermoblock is a must. Means you can extract and froth at the same time, saves some time too. Brass 58mm group handles also a must for me. Plenty of steaming power - froths milk very, very quickly (not quite on par with a commercial machine but much better than most ‘home’ oriented machines).

This appears to be the superseded model: https://alternativebrewing.com.au/p...AV-weFdJFDqbt8KNzPpUfzFNuw27V3RxoChDgQAvD_BwE

Espresso is differnet to instant, espresso will burn over about 80 degrees.

The ideal brewing temp is 65 degrees from memory. It's a drink that you should be able to have straight away, if you have to wait for it to cool down before you can sip it, it's too hot (aka burned) and has lost 3/4 of it's flavour.

The people that think espresso is "too cold" is because they've spent their whole life boiling the kettle to make coffee and are conditioned to it :p. Hence why baristas will roll their eyes at the oldies demanding their coffee be "extra hot" because you are basically asking them to burn your expensive coffee to a crisp, it's the beverage equivelant of a well done steak.

Sunbeam is a really underrated brand in the coffee world, they make some really good stuff!

Some of the best coffees I've ever made have been on sunbeam machines.

Toaster thread next!?

I'm not much of a coffee snob, so mostly instant.

But my wife did buy me some of these individual drip sachets. Pretty good, and the support system pleases the engineer in me.

I thought hard about a manual machine but just couldn't be arsed first thing in the morning. I'm not a morning person so the last thing i want is to fuss around. We bought this about 2 years ago and after dialing it in, its been excellent:

Later on in the day I get the Bialetti Moka pot going.
