They are pretty common around Melbourne metro area, and I suspect are pretty common elesewhere.

If all else fails, sign up to Coffee Snobs who are based in Geelong but post out via AusPost. They publish their toasting schedule so you can order from the up coming roast batch.
Oh they're all over the place. Obviously way better, but they're over 4x more expensive. Aldi is the only decent supermarket bean I've tried. They're roasted* in Melbourne

Hmmmm, might have to try the Aldi beans when I can get to the mainland next.

We tried some Jed's beans today and Robbert Harris. Both were terrible. Good thing each bag only cost $5

All going well we'll have fresh roasted beans tomorrow.

And MR24 informed us today that the coffee shop next to his station sells the fresh beans we prefer (and what beans the missus would like).
