Yes but going through red light actually creates a hazard. It creates a traffic conflict where there wasn't one before.

OTOH a vehicle going along normally at 55 in a 50 zone will not crash, unless something crosses its path, or the driver does something extremely silly.

55 in a 50 zone eh.

only 2 reasons people speed.

1. they choose to speed (allow speeding to occur by foot on gas or no foot on brake),
or
2. they do not realise they are speeding (not paying attention while driving)

so ####ing what???

Do you ever consider that in many (ok - lots) of cases the limit is far lower than what is safe? There are a few situations where the opposite is true too (I can think of one less than 300m from my house). Perhaps if limits were intelligently set, people would have more respect for said limit and drive accordingly??

or
3. drive believes they are doing 50, but speedo is out, and they are really doing 55.

If speedo is out, that's their problem.

then you are breaking the law by driving a car that does not meet ADR's. (not roadworthy)

Of course you could be. Up to the end of 2005 (?) the ADR said speedo's were able to have a tolerance of +/- 10%. Since then it says that speedo's cannot read any slower than the actual vehicle speed. There are still millions of vehicles on the road under the old system.

adr requirement for vehicles up until 2006 allowed +/-10% speedo accuracy over 40km/h, you can do the math.
