So ... LS3 vs L99.

Does this annpuncement mean they've ditched DoD?
L99 ... is it basically an LS3 with DoD? Or is an L99 a part of the "LS3 family"?
or is LS3 the "tough" engine, and L99 can (with manufacturer-acceptable noise & fuel usage) make the same power but isn't as tough so isn't as easy to mod?

LS3

Auto and manual 304Kw no DOD fuel economy figures up

Fuel consumption? If you have to ask… the figures are, in fact, worse than for the previous SS, rising to 12.6L/100km for the manual SS-V Redline and 12.9L/100km for the automatic. “If you’re going to buy a V8, the last thing you think about is fuel economy,” says Holden’s marketing manager, Ben Lasry.

It's typically a dumping ground for old stock that they can't retail, customer buy backs and ex-engineering vehicles. Up until VE they used to sell guaranteed buy back ex-Avis cars as well, but that finished up with VZ Commodore, with the last cars sold in early 2008.

What do you mean by that? Lemons? The Holden auctions were great before the Manheim closed sales.

It seems so.

L99 ... is it basically an LS3 with DoD? Or is an L99 a part of the "LS3 family"?

L99 is an LS3 with 4x collapsible lifters with software solenoid control and valley plate to suit for cylinder deactivation, as well as a phaser assembly for the cam shaft for variable cam phasing. The valves are solid stem & the cam is smaller. RPM is 6000 vs 6600 as a consequence.

No fog lights. Guess there wasn't a huge need for them anyway.
